JOB TITLE: Wide Format Printing & Finishing Operator – 2nd 

 

DEPARTMENT: Wide Format 

 

REPORTS TO: Production Manager 

 

DATE AND TERMS: Full-time, Mon-Thurs 2:00pm-11:00pm 

 

JOB SUMMARY: 

We are looking for aWide Format Printing and Finisher Operator to join our Production department on a 2nd shift. Reporting directly to the Print Production Manager and working alongside the Wide Format Operator, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and efficiency of our wide format printers. You will be required to complete daily/weekly printing and finishing in compliance with job specification that meets Italics high quality standards and procedures. 

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

General and Administrative 

  • Effectively execute the evening production plan laid out by the 1st shift Wide Format Team, when necessary must be ready to reorganize and pivot to meet deadline changes and updates 
  • Communicate effectively with Production Manager, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that both sales and customer objectives are met 
  • Plan and communicate requirements for 1st shift the following day. Share any changes, challenges and roadblocks faced during the 2nd shift 
  • Comply with all OHSA safety requirements 
  • Comply with Italic’s Covid-19 policy 
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment 

 

Printing and Finishing Operations 

  • Responsible for taking over machine’s mid-day production cycle (handshake maintenance) and end of day routine (EOD maintenance) 
  • Submission of files to RIP and file imposition 
  • Operating printing equipment, including SwissQ Print Nyala Led, HP Latex 360, Epson Stylus Pro 
  • Operating cutting and finishing equipment, such as Zund S3, Trotec Speedy 400, Arkane 65” Laminator, etc. as needed to complete the job 
  • Communicate with Service Team and Production Manager to ensure a complete understanding of the job 
  • Ensuring customers’ expectations are met in regard to job specifications and quality 

 

Equipment and Supplies 

  • Clean and maintain equipment following maintenance procedures and supplied checklist 
  • Understand and perform the troubleshooting procedures on the equipment 
  • Ensure press supplies are available and ready to use 
  • Maintain an organized inventory of stock and material 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

This role is a vital part of the production cycle. This position requires a high attention to detail and ensures that the imaged and finished product is in alignment to company quality tolerances.

  • Train and develop co-worker’s skills in small format department

We empower our Client Service Team to identify and resolve client needs and provide the best possible experience, allowing them to build strong relationships with both new and existing business. This includes generation of print estimating and coordinating, purchasing, customer service, invoicing and, if required, general production support.

  • Sample Management – Organize and own the samples and materials collection, keeping it up to date and respond to requests for samples
  • Client Property Owner – receive, document, inventory and measure all client supplied items until released for production/consumption
  • Photography – take and send pictures of jobs upon request

 

 

General Production Support

When required, all employees assist production with hands-on production tasks which could include:

  • Finishing of printing materials (collation, packaging, sorting etc.)

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:
 

Print Production Designers specialize in the creation of visual designs for printing such as stationery, books, boxes and packaging, and a range of other marketing materials. They conceptualize designs, prepare mockups, and create the final designs for printing. They also ensure that the dimensions and technical specifications are suitable for printing.

 
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assisting the sales team in the production of graphic collateral, packaging, display and advertising projects
  • Making any final preflight formatting changes to creative assets
  • Collecting, processing, checking and uploading final art files for production 
  • Should be adept with creative software applications such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Must have solid knowledge of printing processes, keen attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
